Spots on my Agave "Blue Flame..."  a Little Help?

7/25/2013

I several agaves, three of which are the gorgeous hybrid known as "blue flame."  Two of my three blue flames, though, have recently become plagued with a few little brown spots on their lower leaves.

Any idea what's going on with this?  There's nothing on the back of the leaves--no bugs or anything.  And so far it's just the lower leaves.  It's also only my younger blue flames (maybe 8-10" across) that are affected.  My big one seems to be doing fine...

Even though you don't see the bugs now that doesn't mean they weren't there or come in the night. I think since it's lower leaves (near ground) it is a bug sucking some juice out. You can add a systemic bug killer with fertilizer to the soil. Sometimes I do this. It's usually for roses but works really good. Just an idea.

I have a tends ct to start with the simplest remedy for a certain problem, maybe it's from attending law school or watching too much Big Bang Therory but I'm a firm believer in Occam's Razor - It states that among competing hypotheses, the hypothesis with the fewest assumptions should be selected.
The reason I do this is because I get numerous calls from paranoid clients who tend to ask me about every bump, bruise, spot, dry patch or bug they might come across while starring at their succulents in their new landscape. Sometimes the answer is incredibly easy. In your case, looking at the photo, my immediate thought is "did she water this plant, water droplets stayed on the lower mor horizontal leaves & the summer sun broke through from the clouds causing said droplets to magnify the suns rays and burn round holes into those lower leaves?" Looking at your photo with a water droplet in evidence rather than any insect, fungus or bacteria, just makes me wonder.
