An awesome use of an old letterpress box, if I do say so myself!

10/11/2012

Here's a picture of a project I made over a five-month period, using small succulents and an old letterpress box!  I love how it turned out, and it was a lot of fun to make.  I drilled holes in the back of the box to allow drainage, and everything is thriving!  Yay!

It was, however, outside during the recent rains, so I'm really hoping that it isn't going to be too waterlogged.  Debra Lee Baldwin is giving away copies of her soon-to-be-released third book for people who make projects she likes.  Think this one could be a contender?

I love this! It certainly is a contender. What a cheerful collection. How and where do you display it? Is it heavy? And where did you find the letterpress box? Do tell!

Thank you! (A comment from DLB is basically the succulent gardening equivalent of a comment from a rock star, so *thank you* for making my day!)

It's fairly heavy, but easy enough for one not-very-strong person to lift. Right now, I display it outside on my patio on a little wall next to my BBQ, but I'll bring it inside for the winter. I prop it up diagonally using two overturned terra cotta pots, so it's at about a 45-degree angle and very easy to see from anywhere on the patio.

This particular letterpress box happened to be a gift from a friend who used to hang it on her wall and didn't want it anymore. Since then, I've looked around, and find them occasionally on eBay from anywhere between $20 and $90. Sometimes they show up at flea markets, too!

That is so pretty! I have an old letterbox that used to belong to my Mother in law. But I think it will get ruined with all the water. Did you treat yours? And I certainly think it is a contender!
